Just updated to the newest Safari version 26 on my iMac Pro. The compact Tabs are still there BUT I cannot click into the URL when they are enabled.

I can click the compact tab and select it no problem - if I want to click the URL, it's a no go and have to use CMD+L, instead.

When I switch back to "Separate" tabs option in the Safari settings then I can select and click into the URL field as usual.

Wonder if anybody with Compact Tabs enabled is experiencing this issue?

Thanks I'm not the only one. Its very frustrating.. My god, Apple, why you broke something like this?

It's bugged in Compact mode for me

Safari 26’s compact tab bar is supposed to streamline your browser, but the current macOS 15 build apparently forgets that clicking the address bar is a thing. Work‑around: either stick with “Separate Tabs” until Apple fixes it, or embrace the keyboard and press Cmd + L every time. Don’t waste time nuking preferences – this is a UI bug, and the two posters in that thread confirm it’s not just you

Noticed that I wasn't able to close compact tabs by clicking the "x". I thought to myself "this sounds stupid but maybe it's a bug caused by Apple abandoning the compact view in Tahoe?"

Turns out I was right, apparently.
You need to update Safari. There is a little update that fixes this issue.

I'm the only one that has those little circules over the color buttons?
