Safari 3.2.1 install crashes on restart

Hi all, I'm having a problem installing Safari 3.2.1
When software update restarts the comp, it removes the dock/toolbar/apps, and brings up a status window. This status bar gets stuck a little bit in with the words "Configuiring Installation". I have left the comp for ages and it has still been there.
Anyone have any ideas why this might be?
