So there is no doubt that Safari 4 was largely influenced by Google Chrome, even though the tabs are much more difficult to manage...and the thumbnail preview is everything but straightforward.

Now has Apple used the Chromium project for Safari 4 ? It seems the preferences and drop-down menus are located at the same place as well (right end of the navigation bar)

Thanks you

Safari and Chromium are both based on Webkit which is an open source rendering engine that is used in many different browsers on many different platforms.

Hence similarities.

Also there are standard applications interface guidelines that will lead to similar placement of various items.

Good features will be adopted by similar products in the same market place.

Lastly the UI features you described were implemented in Opera / Firefox extenions before they even made it into Chrome.
