Safari 5.1 Pinch to Zoom Issue

Since upgrading to Safari 5.1 with Mac OS X 10.6.8, I am having pinch to zoom issues. It lets me do this action once and then freezes. I am hearing it works correctly in Lion, but I don't want to upgrade to that just yet.

How is it that Apple didn't see this issue with 1.0.6.8, or did they know about it and are forcing people to pay the $30 to upgrade?
 
Found a fix. Using "Get Info" for Safari, make sure it's set to 64-bit mode. Mine was set to 32-bit mode and once I changed it to 64-bit mode, pinch to zoom worked fine again.
