When I try downloading files in Safari, they don't seem to start downloading.

For example, I just downloaded an update for iStat, I just clicked 'download' on their site and I was redirected to the donwload link and it was supposed to load automatically. The blue bar in the address field loaded fully and I assumed the download had started, but my downloads list was empty and nothing was downloaded to my 'Downloads' folder. Of course, this is my default download folder so there's no mistake with that. I tried quitting Safari and opening it again, restarting my computer, uninstalling and then installing Safari again. But, nothing helped. Is this a bug or am i doing something wrong?
