Im still running Mavericks 10.9.5, and don't want to upgrade to El Capitan for personal preference reasons. Im also currently using Safari 7.1.8.

At the same time there is a Software update that I noticed has safari 9.0.1.

I really don't want to move up to El Capitan. Anyone know if I perform the update that includes Safari 9.0.1, will I be required to install El Capitan? If not, will Safari 9.0.1 perform normally?

thanks for any assistance. Im a bit of a novice when it comes to these things.

You should update to Safari 9.0.1, and no, it will not require you to upgrade the entire operating system.
