My Safari is 16.5.2. macOS is 13.4.1.

When I'm using Safari and click on the address bar of a tab (either new tab or existing) to type to navigate to a new site, I have noticed that sometimes within a few seconds the address bar loses the keyboard focus - meaning I am typing but the keys are no longer being typed in the address bar. This behaviour is most often produced when I open new tabs which are set to Google's homepage. I'll start typing a url and then the address bar loses focus and what happens is I will accidentally start a Google search of a few random characters.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Same Safari and MacOS you are using. I am using a 13" MBA M2.

It has been happening me for a LONG TIME. Aggravating and something I have not been able to find a fix for.

Good luck.

Ah... I'm also on last year's M2 MBA.

Just to say I’ve got this too and it’s been happening for a while - 2021 M1 Pro MBP. Are you using Bluetooth external keyboards? I am, but not sure that’s the problem as I can’t replicate the issue at will.

Maddening how randomly the address bar will lose focus. I thought for a while it was as if there was a phantom ‘tab’ press, but this doesn’t seem to be the case.

Yeah, majority of the time my MBA is in clamshell mode connected to my Studio Display. I have magic trackpad, magic keyboard, and magic mouse connected via bluetooth all the time.

Just earlier today I updated to 13.5.1 but I'm having difficulties replicating this issue. Per your comment I tried disconnecting my MBA from Studio Display and also turning off the keyboard. Safari tabs seemed fine. I don't think 13.5.1 fixed the issue but rather 13.5 which a quick google search shows was released 7/24. I probably updated within a few days of 13.5 releasing. Looks like my Safari is 16.6 as well, not sure if that was included with macOS 13.5.

But yeah, I can't really replicate this issue anymore in any combination of screens/accessories. It was definitely more common in the past/more easily replicable. I must've just not noticed over the past few weeks.
