Ii prefer Safari but after the last update, when I am on Facebook and trying to read something on their messenger, the message jumps, flickers, etc, very annoying. Sooo if I use firefox on my imac I can read the stuff with no problem. I like Safari but no other site I use does that. i am wondering if the last update included something in Safari that needed a few days more to get right.

Safari has always been a little, uh... special... compared to other browsers.

Most sites are built to be compatible with Chrome (specifically with Chrome's V8 Javascript engine), and Firefox (and its Gecko engine) somehow maintains "compatible enough" status through a combination of determination and pure spite. Safari's WebKit engine, on the other hand, is always out doing its own thing. It's great when it works, but sometimes it... well... doesn't entirely work. As you can see.

(but to answer your question, realistically it's less an issue with Safari and more that Facebook did something that broke compatibility with Safari/WebKit)

There's also a Facebook Messenger app in the Mac App Store. I don't personally use Facebook but I'd think the app would avoid the problem.

yea mine started doing the same yesterday, really annoying

I have the same issue. It happens to me only with one on one chats, but not with group chats. I don't really want to use a separate app (Messenger) so I hope this is resolved sooner rather than later. No problems with mobile Safari (iPhone, etc).

I think what's happening is they're slowly rolling out this stupid End to End Encryption and AMAZINGLY it doesn't work with Safari on Mac. Can you believe they're putting in place something Millions can't use?
I have one of many chats that's flickering manically and there's no way to stop it. Firefox & iOS devices are fine of course. WTH
