Safari and hijacked/redirected web surfing

While using Safari I'm having problems with web pages loading, then forwarding to other web pages without permission to do so. It's like the browser gets hijacked or redirected. Sometimes when clicking on icons a completely new window will open performing the same type of redirection. Any idea's why?
