I just discovered by accident that the Play/Pause button on the Mac keyboard is able to control audio and video on web pages that are open in Safari, without installing extensions.
I tried it on YouTube videos, an HTML5 audio player I have on my personal website, and even the metronome that pops up in Google search results if you type "metronome." Whatever you played or paused most recently gets bound to the audio keys (it's more reliable if you don't have iTunes open), until you play something else or close the window.
Has anyone seen this before? How long has this feature been around? In particular, I'm excited about the possibilities as a web developer, and I hope that other browsers catch on.
