When I go to Preferences within Safari, I am presented with these options.....

What do I do if I want to have a link I click open in the same window within the same tab?

Like, when the link is expressly designed in the HTML to open a new window/tab? I don't think there's an in-built solution to override the code that someone else wrote on their site. You'd need to find some third party thing for Safari I guess.

That has nothing to do with tabs. That's about external applicaitons that have URLs. Tabs is under the Tabs tab. Tab.
