I'm on the latest Safari 10.4.9, default, and I did not install any browser plugins. iBook 1.33GHz (PPC). I've experienced this problem for several months now, and I can't pinpoint why it's happening.

The problem: all my mac related bookmarks I keep in a folder on my Safari bookmark bar. Next to the folder in parenthesis, a number appears sometimes - that number represents the number of unread stories from the RSS feed from apple.com called "Mac":

feeds:Mac&www.apple.com/main/rss/hotnews/hotnews.rss&uuid:40A422CA-0E02-46E8-BD9D-71BFBD311B36

So, it would look, f.ex. like this: Mac (4) meaning that there are 4 stories that I have not read in that feed since the last time I've looked at the feed.

OK, this worked fine for a long time, it was accurate - stories would accumulate, I'd click on the feed, and the count of unread stories would go down to zero, and now you'd just see "Mac". Unfortunately, since a few months ago, this system broke down. Now, I have a permanent number in the parenthesis, no matter that I've just clicked on the feed. So, if it says Mac (4), I actually have only 2 stories I have no read, and once I read them, it goes down to Mac (2) - never down to nothing! It's as if the 2 is permanently stuck. Also, very often, I'll read the stories, it'll go down to 2, but 5 minuts later it's up to 4 again or whatever - at which point I'll click, and it's the same stories I just read - and then it'll go down arbitrarily to 3 or sometimes get stuck at 4. Anyhow, I don't know what to do. I've tried changing the feed to "number of stories: All, today, last seven days" etc, but nothing changes with the number. Anybody else experiencing this? What can I do to fix this?
