Safari Bookmarks - How do I NOT get it to go to the bookmarks bar by default?

Coming over from every other web browser out there, this is one thing that frustrates me and I can't find a simple way around it.

When I hit the button to add a bookmark, it always defaults to put it in the bookmarks BAR, not the bookmarks MENU (where I would prefer to put bookmarks by default).

Is there a setting somewhere that I can change this to bookmarks MENU? I use Safari on Windows (not Mac OS).

To me the easiest way to add a bookmark is type D. You can set up folders in the bookmark menu and choose which folders to put the bookmark in.
