Safari - Can't save new bookmarks

I have decided to start using Safari and I am having problems with it. I can't get it to save bookmarks. As of now I have no bookmarks showing.

When starting Safari I get a message - There is a problem saving your bookmarks. Safari encountered a problem while saving bookmarks.

I get the same thing when I try to add a new one but then it puts in in the bookmarks but does not save it after quitting the program

System - Mac G4 450mhz, OS X 10.4.7, Safari 2.0.4

Try resetting Safari from the Safari menu. Also, there's a folder named Safari in your Home folder's Library. Get Info on this folder (select it and press COMMAND-I) to check its permissions. You should be able to Read & Write.

You ever feel real stupid, I had copied that folder to a new user, checked all the permissions inside the folder but not the safari folder itself.

Wow 15 years on a Mac and I felt like it was my first one

Can't save Safari bookmarks

dear Mad Jew (Happy New Year), or anyone else (happy Ramadan, joyous Equinox)- I've been using Safari as my regular browser, and it has stopped being able to save bookmarks, from either the button on the bar, or using the pulldown menu. There is no error message, it just doesn't happen. I've reset Safari, and checked my home folder to make sure that read/write permissions are turned on. I'm flummoxed.

Any help would be much appreciated

G4 1GHz powerpc, 10.4.7, Safari Version 2.0.4 (419.3)

Thanks mate.

Did you check the Home folder or the Safari folder with the Library on your Home folder? Maybe try opening up a new user account and seeing if the problem carries over to there.

Safari bookmarks happy again

Dear Mad Jew, I've no idea why, but Safari is now fine, saving bookmarks, obeying my every whim. Apparently I only visit this site near holiday days, so happy Yom Kippur. So, thanks, and if all goes not well again, I'll be back.

Can't add to bookmarks

Hi- I can no longer add to bookmarks. I did extensive research and did these things: went into Safari and changed to 32 bit, erased Cache, checked permissions (all were ok), made sure there were no Parental Rights on. Now I'm at a stand still

Can't add to bookmarks- fixed

I figured out that I had several folders on my computer called the same thing. It's easy to do. Check this first. A folder is a folder, no matter if it's in the bookmarks, of course. I changed my folder name slightly in my bookmarks and now I can add bookmarks!
