First day with new 16'' (1 Tb) was full of rainbow wheels. I had to reinstall Monterey several times and I am still on square one.
I used the Migration Assistant (importing backup Intel Mac via a Thunderbolt external SSD).
1. System storage error
Migration Assistant stopped working after 5 mins. The system storage showed 600Gb was taken. That's impossible in 5 min.
So I waited a few hrs, ran some utils, but whatever I did, 60% of my 1 Tb was not available. I reformatted and reinstalled Monterey.
2. Safari:rainbow wheels
Second try: the restore was completed orderly (1 Tb in about 30 mins, that's ok). All ran smooth. But every time I opened a Safari site that uses Java, it gave me the rainbow wheel and I had to "Force Quit" it. Other sites that didn't use Java, didn't crash.
Ah simple, I thought, let's uninstall and reinstall Java, get rid of plugins in Safari and why not, hunt down any other thing that is related to Safari and was from Intel machine. So I did. Still crashes (I've send over 100 crash reports to Apple).
3. Several reinstalls
I removed any Java traces on original machine, did a new backup. I also reinstalled Monterey on new machine. Restored backup. Same problem. Found a Java version for M1. Installed it. Same problem. Tried again. Failed. maybe its not Java.
Solution is simple: don't use Migration Assistant on a new machine? Yeah, but why is there a Migration Assistant if it is causing this problems?
Anyone an idea how to fix this?
The screen I saw all day.
