Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you use any plugins prior to upgrading the OS or Safari? Dig around in /Library/Internet Plug-ins folder and see if you have anything weird in there.

Download the Safari 3.2.2 for Leopard dmg onto a thumbdrive from another computer or using Firefox if you had it installed and reinstall? It can be found on http://support.apple.com/downloads. Pull the Safari.pkg file from /Library/Receipts before you do so in order to avoid the "A newer version is already installed" message.

I ran Software Update aftewr istalling the 10.5.7 Combo Updater and "Safari Beta 4.0" came up. I downloaded and installed it and have had no problems.

That update will only appear if you have the beta already installed, i.e. you went to the beta download site, ran the installer, etc. The OP has Safari 3.2.3 as you can see from his log.
