For a little while, I can not be sure exactly for how long, but when I am using Safari (ver. 6.1.5) on my 24" iMac running OSX 10.7.5 and I open a new tab or click on a link in the webpage, the mouse arrow changes to the 'colour wheel' and I have to force quit Safari.

Why is this happening and is there anything I can do to prevent this as it is becoming a little annoying.

N.B. I know I need to upgrade my mac as I think running Lion on my iMac that was purchased with Tiger that I upgraded to SL is a bit too much for my ageing iMac.

Are you having the beach ball with any other apps or only Safari? That beach ball when launching apps can sometimes be a drive failure on the way. If you start Disk Util and do a verify disk, does it show any errors?

Try reseting Safari. Do you have any Safari extensions installed that may be causing a conflict.

I only get the beach ball/colour wheel with Safari.

I have done a verify disc and all came up Okay.

I have reset Safari, which I do at least once a week, and I have not extensions installed.
