Hey, this may sound like a basic question, but I'm unable to figure it out... I have lots of Safari windows and tabs open in different set "Spaces", each with a different theme. Whenever I click a link (Safari is my default browser) it always opens up in a particular Space within a particular window that I hardly ever use. I then have to detach the tab into a new window then drag the window into the space I was using and wanted it to be in.

My most recent daily use Safari windows are in one Space, but links never open there. They open somewhere else and every time I have to re-arrange my spaces again.

Anyone know how to set a Safari window as the active window that links get opened in? It's a minor thing, but it's been bugging me for years.

If you right-click or long-press on the Safari icon (or any app), Options, then None, then it will open in any space that you are currently in. If you select All Desktops then the same thing will be open in every space, which is annoying, and if you select This Desktop, then it will open in the space you are currently in. So selecting None is the best bet. I used to have the same problem and it was very annoying. I hope this helps!

It's good to hear I'm not the only one. Though my settings are already on "None". Every link from messages, calendar etc still open up in a tab in a space I hardly use. I've searched and searched but I haven't seen anyone resolve the issue

@ab225 sorry that it didn't work. Can you try deleting the problematic space and see if that fixes it? Also, a bit more involved but you can you macOS Recovery to reinstall macOS. You won't lose any data but it will take about an hour to do.

So I found this thread looking for answers. The "none" unfortunately didn't help. I use my external display as my main — and my MacBook sits off to the side and the safari window there is only used for YouTube... Even though I'm in my "main" window — links open in the MacBook window. The menu bar and dock are assigned to my primary (external) display in settings, so I don't understand this at all.
