I'll click Safari to open, though the Safari icon just keeps on bouncing without anything happening. After a while the dock will stop bouncing and right clicking tells me to force quit Safari.......but that's it.

Any help?

If you set up a admin acc all apps will be there but no prefs/support files, those will just regenerate when you start the app. iTunes library, docs you will have to move manually. You can move what you want by moving files to HD shared folder and it will be at that location when you log in to the admit acc. Then move those files to where you need them. Take your time to do this. 400 gigs of what kind of files?

Everything? Wouldn't that take forever?

I have 400 gbs.

No, but you don't need to do that. If that fixes it this will too:

Copy and paste this into Terminal.app:
Code:
mv ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist ~/Desktop;open /Applications/Safari.app

And if you find it doesn't work:
Code:
mv ~/Desktop/com.apple.Safari.plist ~/Library/Preferences

I am in the same boat. Finally got safari to launch by moving various safari-related things out of my Library, but it freezes as soon as it launches. Seemed to start soon after (but not immediately after) the update to 10.7.2. I also cannot get the installer for safari to run to try reinstall, and can't get the installer for the 10.7.2 combo update to run to try reinstalling that.

Please post if you find a solution.

Possibly related...

Keychain Access would also not launch. I moved my keychains out of my library and keychain access launches. I believe (but am not positive) that is when safari started launching (although not working) again.

I am now trying to reinstall lion, but it has been "Downloading additional components" for over 5 hours. No install disk is a disaster.

I deleted Safari, then downloaded it again but not before opening disk utility and verifying and repairing permissions...

after that i was easily able to install safari and I'm back!

OK. Thanks for the info. Glad you solved your problem. I didn't try deleting safari, but I did try repairing the permissions. That did not fix the problem preventing me from launching the installer. I don't want to interrupt the OS reinstall since it is finally getting close, but I will try that if this fails.
