After upgrading to Ventura, Safari doesn't work very well. I can navigate some sites, then after a few minutes I can click on a link and it just acts like it's loading the page forever - and it never loads. I can paste the link into Chrome, and Chrome works flawlessly. If I exit Safari and reopen it, it will work again for a short while, then pages stop loading again. I never had a problem before Ventura - I have a 14" M1 Pro.

Any ideas?

I've had this same problem since well before Ventura. It's very intermittent. If you find a fix, please let me know!

Fixed. I turned off limit IP address tracking under my network settings, and disabled hide IP address from trackers in Safari. I never had to turn these things off before the Ventura upgrade. Safari was completely broken with them turned on.

I have the same problem and this fixed it, thanks. However does that mean my Safari and WIFI network are less secure now?

I have the same issues on my M1 MacBook Air.

I turned off the settings you mentioned but still safari is very slow. It takes about 10 seconds for macrumors to load, YouTube 18 seconds, reddit 15 seconds.

Internet works just fine on my MacBook, it's just safari.
I also tried different settings, turned off AdGuard and so on, still slow as hell.

Any other suggestions?

I had the first disabled but not the second. Trying that now. Fingers crossed that fixes it!

Ah - I had the same issue. Thanks. I run a pihole, so I wonder if that was not playing well with the limit ip address tracking feature of MacOS.

Whilst I was experiencing this issue, I did find that a number of 3rd party page resources, on many pages, were not loading - if I use developer tools to block that resource(s) then the page loads fine.

Perhaps clear your browser cache, and remove any extensions (not just disable). Restart the machine, try again.

I also run a pi-hole. Never had an issue prior to Ventura, though.

Update several days later: The problem hasn't cropped up again. Here's hoping.
So this is an issue for me again. I've already disabled and uninstalled all safari extensions and some pages on certain sites are loading very slowly. It mostly seems to happen at home where I plug my MacBook into my office dock. This has a wired network connection which is set to higher priority than my wifi network - which is still on / connected. Occasionally when the issue arrises and I kill the wifi on my MacBook the page will instantly load. Not always, but about 70% of the time. Bloody odd behaviour.

Did you check to confirm that the feature hasn’t been enabled again? I had it re-enable itself at my house and I had to turn it off again. That only happened one time though and it hasn’t turned back on.

I’m having to disable it on every guest network when I travel. I never had an issue before Ventura, but if limit IP address tracking is enabled, pages just refuse to load. Super annoying behavior.

It seemed to happen again yesterday—and it affected anything with a WKWebView in it. For the duration, even Dash (local offline documentation browsing) wouldn't load anything, but other non-Webkit browsers would.

I checked, and the settings are still disabled.

This is extremely frustrating.

What extensions do you have installed?
None at this time. I had an Adblock extension installed, but I removed it while I'm working through these issues. I have extensive blocking via Pi-Hole and also my firewall.

It seems to be getting worse. When it happens, I am no longer able to open other apps for the duration. Already running apps work just fine, even those that use networking (such as Discord).

Are you running Ventura 13.0.1? I haven't updated to that version yet. Although I have started noticing additional issues on v13 - some sites are hanging or very slow on initial load even with limit IP tracking disabled. Edit - on all networks. I wanted to rule out my restrictive firewall, and it happens even on fully open networks.

Yes, 13.0.1. I just had another hang. This one happened right after closing Firefox, but I'm not able to repeat it. Looking in my console, my only crash reports are from a Safari extension ("Open in Apollo"), which I have now disabled. I'm keeping the console open to see if I get any spin reports when the issue occurs.

One thing I've noticed: Every time the hang happens, I find a CarbonComponentXPCScanner process running. It's an intel process, but I only have one Intel app (OpenEmu)—and I haven't run it in weeks. I'm curious if it's related or if I somehow wound up with an Intel app without knowing it.

Very interesting. I’ll update to 13.0.1 tomorrow and next time I have a hang, I’ll check processes to see what is running. I do have a couple intel apps that I use regularly.

It just happened again, and this time, I opened up Console.app and turned on streaming. Checking errors and faults, I see many errors like the following:

Sandbox: com.apple.WebKit.Networking(24750) deny(1) mach-lookup com.apple.diagnosticd

And when I opened the Activity Monitor, CarbonComponentXPCScanner was back! Might finally be onto something? I'll do some more digging.
