Hey everyone
I use eBay quite a lot - the local high street sucks (just summarizing here lol), and I'm in an out of the way kind of place where a lot of major online retailers won't ship, but ebay sellers usually will - thank god for that lol.
Unfortunately, lately I have been getting TONS of grief when trying to access/use ebay on my mac (Safari 5.0.5, OS 10.6.7). Said grief somes in the form of incessant login screens, which usually don't even react - I put in my logins, hit enter, then juuust when the URL looks like it's changing from https://signin.ebay...... to the item URL or My eBay, it changes its mind halfway through and goes right back to the signin screen.
Sometimes it decides to go through after a few tries, maybe faster if I untick the 'keep me signed in' box or manually retype the password, other times it can just go on doing that til judgment day if I have the patience to continue clicking enter
The worst part is that not only is it a hassle to get through once the login screen pops up, but the login screen pops up much more often in the first place - like picture this: I find an item I want to save, and click Watch - login screen! I finally save it, and decide to go through my watched items to find the other similar listings I'd saved to compare them, so I click my ebay - login screen! I settle on a listing and click Bid/Buy - login screen! I FINALLY manage to get through to the commit to buy screen and click on the button, then, you guessed it - login screen!
This has been going on since before Christmas, and earlier today I just finished the second call to their customer support about the same issue - the first time it seemed to have been fixed, but then in the last month or so it began to play up again
) Here's the sum total of what I got out of both calls:
- reset safari (this from the first call - at first I would do that, and it would work for a bit, but for the last week or so you could reset safari twice a day and it still gave me grief, hence cust support call #2)
- delete all cookies and empty cache separately (this from today's call)
- according to today's rep, it's just the way safari is with ebay, so I should put up and shut up lol
Joking aside, both the reps were really nice and willing to help, no complaints on their attitude at all, but it was obvious they didn't have any more info than that stuff because that's all the service provided them with.
but the thing is, none of it did a bit of good. The delete cookies and empty cache seemed to do the trick when I did it while on the phone with the rep, but tonight, barely 12 hours later, I'm back to square bluidy one. They did say I should just dump the cookies and cache every time I had the problem, but it seems impractical to do that about once a day, if not more often
Plus I dunno, maybe it's also bad for the computer to do that stuff all the friggin' time? I was under the impression these aren't things you resort to every day.
So, how do I work around this? Here's the catch though: I really would rather avoid downloading another browser. Safari has served me damn well for going on 3 1/2 years - the whole time I've had a mac. Why mess with a good thing, you know? and having to switch browser for one thing would be a major PITA. anyway, any ideas on how to work this out or even why it might be happening would be greatly appreciated
