why does safari (3 and 4) not remember favicons in the bookmark menus?

half the time safari correctly displays a favicon in the bookmark menu, half the time it forgets it.

it always displays the favicons properly in the address bar.

If you clear your personal stuff, it'll forget the favicons. I don't know if that's what you do, but that's what my Safari does. :apple::apple:

no, it happens randomly and not to all favicons at the same time as you can see from the pic. i did all the usual reset safari, repair permissions. but the problem even persisted when I upgraded from safari 3 to 4. it's quite annoying.

Stupid idea here, but maybe they don't have favicons? Just wondering. :p

if you look at the screen shot you'd see that the huffington post and scifi have favicons.

does anybody know where favicons are saved? maybe the folder has wrong permissions?

I've been experiencing the same problem - at times Safari just won't display certain favicons (even though it previously DID display them)... Pretty stupid if you ask me.

it's quite annoying. could it be that there is a permission problem wherever the favicons are stored? maybe trashing a plist?

so i trashed users/library/safari/WebpageIcons.db

all favicons were gone, safari created the WebpageIcons.db upon restart again.

it was 2.8MB and it's now 32kb. during surfing it memorizes now all favicons. let's see if the problem is gone after a few hours of surfing.
