Safari freezes, after which no application will open

Hey friends,

The title says it all. Once in a while I'll be using Safari and it will freeze. The little error dialog that pops up normally offers a "Reopen the Application" option, but in these cases, it only says "Close" or "Report." If I try to open any application after this, nothing happens.

Has anyone had this problem? So far the only solution - a temporary one - is to restart the computer.

Can you force quit out of Safari? Press Command+Alt+Escape.

Yes I can force quit. It force quits, and then no other application (including Safari) will reopen. I've zapped PRAM and repaired my permissions...

Here's a screenshot of what happens when Safari freezes, and then when I force quit every subsequent app that will not fully open. Notice how "Reopen" isn't an option? So strange!
