Safari freezes when trying to quit (10.12.2)

I just updated to 10.12.2 and when I launch Safari it does not remember the websites that I have visited. They are not there in the drop down menu. Also when I try to quit the app (cmd+q) safari freezes and I have to force quit it. The fans seem to spin up as well until I force quit it.

Any ideas?

Edit: It also happens when I quit from the menu in Safari.
