Safari homescreen shortcuts don't fill screen?

Hi there,

I don't often use homescreen shortcuts for web pages but have started to do so, for the likes of maps and forums.

But my experience so far has been they're all letter boxed to iPhone 4/S size which doesn't make sense.

Please help.
