My friend's Safari suddenly receives NO images, NO stylesheets, and NO JavaScript, so pages are unstyled and nearly non-functional.

Mac Mail, iTunes Store, and various instant messaging apps still work fine.

Safari DOES work fine in the Guest Account.

We tried rebooting, and changing to Google DNS, and making a fresh Location, but her main account's Safari still fails regardless.

Is there something in User/Library that we can delete to kick Safari back into shape without giving up her saved bookmarks and passwords?

(She uses Safari 5 on 10.6.8. She lives on a road with no broadband, only dialup, so updating or trying another browser are not possible right now. I did confirm that she has no "dialup accelerator" or other junk installed.)

Thanks in advance!

On her main account did you clear the browser cache and the Flash cookies?

Plus on her account if you can download the free small program EtreCheck. When you run it anything that shows up red manually delete that incompatible service/program. This should speed up that Mac.

Yes, we cleared the cache, and she uses ClickToFlash to block Flash, but Flash cookies can't block images/stylesheets across all sites the way she's seeing.

Thanks for the tip on that EtreCheck. Luckily, she doesn't actually install anything on her machine! (Everything she has, I installed myself a year ago--but no background services, just a few games and Messengers.)
