iPod touch Safari Hyperlinks With Touch ?

Maybe i am being a schmuck here BUT. On an iPOD touch when browsing websites...how do you actually follow a hyperlink ? When I double tap on one it just zooms in, single tap doesn't do anything.

Do i have to stand on one leg whilst doing it or something ?
