Why not make the post in one of the numerous iOS 7 icon threads that are still active?
Looks too much like the clock, IMO..
And the Safari icon doesn't "need" anything.

Sure, but it can't be done this way because of the circle. It has to follow the "icon design pattern".
Old Safari icon was map with compass over it, at least suggesting something to do with safari. Now icon is just compass, and no matter how nice it's rendered, it's a compass icon, not Safari icon, and it's weird to see it alongside the compass app. I think first thing that should be done with this icon is a better metaphor, not better rendering.
