I have a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8 (patched to the latest) with Safari 5.0.5. There is a ClearOS proxy in place and the proxy is set in the system preferences. When I try to access https sites - such as https://www.hotmail.com - I get an error saying that Safari can not find the site. It is not a proxy block error, it is a Safari error.

Firefox on the same machine with manual proxy settings for the same proxy server does not have an issue. The user, however, would prefer to use Safari as her default browser.

To check if it is the proxy causing the issue, I set up a Novell BorderManager 3.9 proxy and tested through this - same issue.

Other MacBooks and iMacs using the ClearOS Proxy or the BorderManager proxy have no issues.

I have tried removing the com.apple.Safari cache and preferences with no success.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Go to: System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> Proxies.

Is the proxy set up as an HTTP proxy or HTTPS proxy?

If it isn't set as an HTTPS proxy, then this may be the issue.
