Folks,
I have a little problem here - Safari will not open. When I click it, the icon bounces a few times in the dock and then I get the "Safari has unexpectedly quit" message. Let me explain the events leading up to this and the troubleshooting steps I've already attempted.
The Cause?
Everything was cool yesterday before I started downloading some freeware fonts from a site (www.sharkshock.com). I started installing the fonts in Font Book and had nothing strange happen. After installing several fonts, I decided to check my email. One email was a Macrumors reply notification. I clicked the link in it and noticed the problem for the first time.
Troubleshooting Steps
1) I logged out then logged back in. No luck.
2) I restarted the computer. Nothing.
3) I reinstalled Safari. Still no luck.
4) I checked out the troubleshooting page on Apple's Support site and went through all the steps. There, I learned that the problem was isolated in my home directory. (I switched users and had no trouble opening the app.)
5) I dragged Safari to the trash, emptied it, then reinstalled Safari a second time. The problem persisted.
I guess I will pull every file out of the Home directory and keep trying. (Before, I only tested the files listed on the Support page.)
I'm running Panther on a 1 GHz iMac. (Luckily, my new 12" PB will be here today.) I really don't like Explorer so if someone could help me get Safari back up and running, I'd be very appreciative.
Cheers,
Squire
