press command-option-space
"Search: This Mac | File Name"
In the search field type "safari"
If you find it, select it and press command-r and it will take you to where it is.

If you don't have it, then how are you getting onto the internet?

Thank you for taking the time to answer me,

I am online with this Opera-thing I also have Firefox if I wanted to use it.

I searched for Safari and as I said there is NOTHING, only a folder with "bookmarks" and nothing else.

Please explain why I can't download Safari without the "your system is not big enough" - message....

You may be trying to download the latest version of Safari (5.1), which only runs on Lion. That's why you're getting an error. Either that, or you have almost no disk space left. I'm not sure what "big enough" is referring to, though I'm almost completely certain it's referring to the system version.

Do you have any software updates to run? Try running all your software updates and see if that brings back Safari.

This download page is the latest version specific to Leopard.

Please help a newbie!

Safari is totally gone from my Macbook OS X Version 10.5.8 so I am online with firefox and that's not working for me...
HOW do I get Safari back - when I download it I constantly get the message that my version don't match.
Please anyone? Go online with me in iChat?
I can call US landline for free (I am in Denmark)
I need my Mac to work - and I'm a virgin in this universe.

Where is it gone from? The Dock or the Applications folder? Try using Spotlight in the upper right corner and type in Safari. What do you get?

You can also download the 10.5.8 combo update which puts Safari v4.0.2 back on.

Software update is in the Apple Menu (you know, the one that looks like the Apple symbol in the upper left corner). Did you try the download link I provided?

Try using Spotlight in the upper right corner and type in Safari. What do you get?

Did you read this thread?

First:

press command-option-space
"Search: This Mac | File Name"
In the search field type "safari"

Then:

I searched for Safari and as I said there is NOTHING, only a folder with "bookmarks" and nothing else.

The OP has already tried it and it isn't there. I get the feeling the OP bought the Mac used. Likely the previous owner didn't like Safari and decided to simply delete it.

I doubt you have TimeMachine setup, but if you do, go to TimeMachine and go to applications folder and go back until you see Safari. Click on it and then click restore.

Other than that like someone previously mentioned. Download the correct Safari version from the web.

The Safari download page proably trys to give you v5.1, which is not compatable with Leopard.

With a little searching you can find v5.0.6 which was released along side the new v5.1. It does not have the new features but it does have one important feature, it's compatible with 10.5.8 (Leopard). :p

Anyway, blah blah blah, you want the link right? - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1422 or (Direct Download)

EDIT: Sorry iThinkergoiMac, I did not see you already posted the same link.

Hopefully you got everything working, since you haven't posted back with more issues, but fyi, to change the default browser, go to Safari>Preferences>General and then choose your default web browser from the drop down list at the top.

I thought it was kinda counterintuitive that you'd have to change it though safari, but that's another good reason not to ever delete safari.

Hi again

Safari is back - so I click on safari and it opens and close imideatly..... HOW do I now UN-install Safari?
Do I just do as last time; search Safari and drag it all into the wastebasket?

Unless u guessed.... I'm new at this. and very frustated because I got a Mac to get away from the "update" "virus" crap on a PC.

U know a direct contact in 5 min with one of you experts would probably solve my problem....

Regards

Pleeeeease am I nut's?

I have done it all - everything U are telling me to do. I threw safari out. restartede. I downloaded from the link englishman send me, all went fine. I restartede.
I drag the safari icon into my list with icons on the bottom of the screen. I click and safari opens... and closes. Then a pop-up window comes with options: I can send report to apple, ignore or relaunch.
I relaunch and it closes again.

So I am still here - my safari is not gone, it will just not open. I am online in firefox. But that's not the point - why is Safari not working?
What am I doing wrong?
Anyone who can help... in iChat or "live" in any other way because this don't seems to work -

Have you tried using the 10.5.8 combo update? It may be worth a try before considering a full reinstall.

The usual suspect of this issue is the time has been reset therefor updates won't process because the time has to be manually set. Go to your time properties on top right and set. Then go apple icon and update

I suspect that the OP finally figured something out --- more than 6 years ago, and has not returned since that last post in 2011.
Not really related to updates, anyway. The OP had some issues with preference files in the user account. It would have been easy to fix from that idea.
