Safari on 10.8.1 very slow?

I have an i7 iMac, 16 GB ram, was running 10.7.4 and upgraded to 10.8, now running 10.8.1. I have around 20 tabs open in Safari, but after a while, Safari slows down to the point I cannot use it. I opened the same tabs in Firefox, a lot better, no problems. Is there something I can do besides clean install? I don't have any other problems, only Safari.
