Is there any way to have the bookmarks bar in Safari only show in the 'new tab' page, like on Chrome?

I guess if there are any Chrome users looking in, they might know what you mean. But, if you give more details, maybe a Safari user who doesn't also use Chrome might be able to help. New tab page???

Well, on Chrome, the Bookmarks bar below the address bar can be configured to only show when a new tab has been opened, so it's not there all the time taking up screen space. I'm asking if anything like this could be done in Safari?

I would like to resurrect this topic :) Is it possible to show the bookmarks only if the new tab is activated? (As it's done in Chrome) Maybe some extension? I was looking at the official list of extensions but without luck.
