There's a plug-in for Firefox called DowloadHelper that allows you to rip streaming video content from many sites such as You Tube.

Is there something like that for Safari?

You can easily download YouTube videos with Safari's Activity window. Just locate the large file and Option+double-click.

if you want something thats simpler than that and is brilliant at the same task iskysoft itube studio, it puts a download pane on top of any youtube video just like the one in the old realplayer for windows. give it a go. its excellent!
