Hi there,

since upgrading to sequoia, safari doesnt show the plus-sign any more; the one I used to use to add urls to my favorites quickly and easiy.

Is this gone in general and nobody talks / complains about it or is it just me?

I really used this a lot, so... it leaves me puzzled why this has been removed.

Cheers
M

No idea why this happened. Anyway:
From the View menu, pick "Customize toolbar...".
There you can add the "+" button again.

Thanks, but I was referring to the PLUS-sign in the URL / search input box, to make it more clear.

That is gone, it's not a customizable toolbar item.

Sorry for misreading your question.
Perhaps it's the Share button then?

this is what I mean:

It is was a fantastic time-saver, where you could quickly store an URL to favs, reading list (by long-click), or via quick-click directly in your top favs.

the "+" sign is still there - just place your cursor in the address bar and it appears. Click on it to store URLs to favourites

well, that's the way it was working BEFORE updating to macOS Sequoia; now it does not appear, there is a new "button" for other stuff now:

and it's the same on the two macbooks I use...

hopefully (!) I am just too stupid and it can be configured to come back...

I guess they removed it to make spaces for the new button on the right.
Anyway, just use the Bookmarks menu, it's right there.

It's not needed anymore:

- Click on the address of the website. A dialogue opens showing your Favourite folders and Reading List. Navigate to the folder you want to put the bookmark in

- Drag the URL of the website to this folder to add the bookmark

this might be working, but (in my humble opinion) is way more uncomfortable than before, especially if you have a lot of folders & subfolders.

just noticed that the reader-function is gone as well. I know there is a keyboad-shortcut, but the button was very handy as well.

I find this rather frustrating, especially when you are used to these quick actions.

The button is indeed gone. I have not found a substitute for it either.

You can toggle reader mode via that new icon on the left side (the rectangular with the two horizontal lines below it). In fact, when you click and hold on that icon, the reader will be enabled (if available for the webpage you are viewing).

I tried already but that doesn't work:
- Long click --> nothing happens...
- only shortcut shift-command-r is working

sample page used: current page, or spiegel.de

It seems to work only on webpages that Safari recognises as articles. The keyboard shortcut merely forces reader mode.

thanks, you are correct! Before Sequoia you could always long-click, right? I already forgot :)

Will stick to shortcuts for now, and have another look at Firefox again after my few (very) happy years with Safari.

😀

It's back:

Why the heck did they remove it in the first place? Anyway, glad to have it back.
