I've had this pop-up open a few times while I'm browsing in Safari. All of a sudden 3 new tabs opened and this site was prompting a download. I didn't download it, and closed the tabs. Doing a virus scan now. Anyone experience this before?

Side note: what is a good recommended free Mac Virus scan software, just to put my mind at ease. Thanks.

Is it a particular site or sites that you get this? As long as you just closed it without downloading or installing anything you should be okay.

Make sure your OS is updated so any security updates are in place.

ClamXAV is a pretty popular and free AV for Macs.

There are no OSX viruses in the wild, so you are wasting your time and money checking for virus'.

If it only happens once, chances are that it was a popup from a specific site you visited.
