Safari Private Mode ERASING all previously-recorded logins?

Currently in Switzerland
I used to enter a number of password-based sites and THEN activate Private Mode (so that those passwords wouldn't require re-typing)...it seems like this is no longer happening.

Anyone else facing the aforementioned issue?
