Safari slow

I am using Safari Version 3.0.4 (5523.15) and it seems slow to load pages. I am on a fairly new iMac. I have Firefox on my system just because Safari seems to freeze or load very slow at times. I clean out my caches every once in a while with Onyx or other tools.

when you type in a new URL does it take around 5 seconds before the page begins to load?
