Hi all,

I have an issue when creating a new account on a website and Safari recommends a strong password. After I use the strong password it only offers to save it some of the time. Unfortunately this means after an account is created I have to select the forgot password option so it can be reset. Then I usually just generate a password in another app so I know it has been saved.

I also had this issue in iOS 15. When it works it is great, but I am disappointed that when a password like this is generated it isn't always saved.

Has anyone else had this issue or know of any workarounds?

Thanks.

I've had the same thing happen and I think it's based on the specific website because it seems so random. I would say I get the save password prompt in Safari about 90% of the time. But I notice now there are more options so maybe that will help, especially Edit Strong Password, which would allow you to copy it and paste into a sticky. In that scenario if I've been able to copy it and then attempt to log-in, I'll always get the Safari save password prompt.

I had one yesterday that showed an option to edit the password (after choosing a strong pw), so was able to copy it to a sticky in case it didn't save, but that's the first time I've seen a password field edit option.
For me has been working at lot less than 90% of the time.
I really hope it is something they fix soon as it would be a really great feature to have working properly.

I updated my post because I just tested it again and see there are new strong password options. Take a look at that to see if that will help. Again, I don't believe it's an Apple issue but more about the specific websites where it doesn't prompt.

I see your updated post, but it seems to be in macOS Safari. My issue is Safari in iOS 16.
Glad to see the other options in macOS!

My mistake, sorry. So there are no additional strong password options in iOS 16?
I just checked and you are correct there are other options in iOS 16, so I could edit and save the password that way.
Thanks for your help, I hadn't noticed that before.

I’ve seen that issue before iOS 16. I’ve noticed a few times that when I use the same tab to go to another website that I’ll be promoted to save the password. I could be hyped up on goofballs too

Been an occasional problem for me since introduction in 7.0.3.

Since it's an occasional problem, and I have a password manager app in addition to Keychain, and of late, some sites don't like "-" as a special character (ran into this a couple of time last few days), I've been in the habit of using the password manager app to generate the password. At least will be saved there and will be a source option when prompted, and can "ok" if/when prompted for "save to Keychain?".

Can also generate the password via Settings > Passwords. There is an add ("+") option there and will suggest a password that can be cut/pasted.

But as @WildSky mentioned, there is something with the website and how it's designed. Enough there for iOS to recognize there is a password field, but guessing that how the form/page is being submitted is maybe not quite "standard"? WAG as have not been interested in tracking down why: my process works for me.
