Safari Tabs Not Loading in Background?

Has anyone now noticed that tabs will not start loading until they are made active or will reload if they haven't been active in awhile kind of like it does in iOS? Sometimes I have a slower connection so I will open a bunch of tabs at once to let them preload while I'm reading one tab. This now seems to be a fruitless effort as the page won't start loading until I click each one and even then, by the time I get to it, the tab might decide to reload anyway.
