Safari Windows/Tabs don't close. . .

Has anyone ever experienced a bug where Safari windows and tabs won't close? Odd, I tried trashing preferences, reseting safari, etc. but nothing will do the trick. . . . and there doesn't seem to be a way to reinstall safari easily (don't have my OSX dvd on me). 10.4.5, safari 2.0.3

What methods are you using to close windows (or not close, as the case may be)? Does both clicking on the red circle/grey x and typing COMMAND-W not work?
