Recently, safari/chrome have not been able to open downloads. Nothing happens after I click start download for various file types. I have repaired disk permissions and both browsers are up to date, anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

So the file doesn't eventually appear in your Downloads folder? Or the file is downloaded but fails to open automatically?

file doesn't eventually appear in the window that manages downloads/displays download status in both Safari and Chrome

What version of OS X? What version of Safari? Any add-ons installed?

Safari-->Preferences-->General: What folder for "Save downloaded files to"?

In Finder, click on the folder named in the "Save downloaded files to" line and press command-I. Is the file locked? Do you have permissions to write to the file?
