Safari won't let me change my homepage?

I've just upgraded to snow leopard and found a problem with my Safari browser - I cannot change my homepage to www.google.com or any other page, the preferences always revert my homepage to the apple homepage.

When I installed 10.6, I did a "clean install" then copied over my bookmarks and history files from my backup drive. I then ran software update to update everything to the latest versions. Any ideas?

Try:
- Resetting Safari(from the menu bar, Safari>Reset Safari…)
- Deleting the Safari preferences (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist) and restarting Safari.
