After trying multiple things trying to correct this problem it still exists. This just started a week ago. Nothing has changed; no new software or widgets have been installed. It just quite working. Yikes!

Used Disk Utilities to "Verify Disk Permissions" then repaired them.
Used "Verify Disk" and then did a Repair.
Used "OnyX" for Mavericks to clean out entire system of extraneous junk.
Performed web searches and tried various approaches to see if they worked. They didn't.
