The Background:
Safari's window zoom will fit the window to the page and, when used again, will shrink the window to the size and position before the zoom. As long as the window has a custom size and/or position before the zoom, it will return back to that state when the green zoom button is click again.
The Problem:
If the Safari window is opened already zoomed (by opening Safari or a new window), it will return to its default and not the custom size/position that I had set by closing a previous window (both zoomed and unzoomed) with my custom size/position.
In short, Safari won't remember my unzoomed window position unless I closed with the window unzoomed.
The Story:
It was the first day of July and the cool ocean breeze swept away the hot summer air from my skin. That summer wa- ... no, that's not right.
I began playing with settings and different ways to close the window and I came to the conclusion of the problem stated above.
I deleted the Safari preferences, reset Safari settings, deleted Safari along with all of its other files and reinstalled it, and repaired permissions to no avail.
Frustrated, I attached my external hard drive and began to back up.
"This... I will purge this of all the corruption," I scowled as I proceeded with a clean installation of OS X 10.5.5.
Safari (now version 3, as it was 4 before) no longer hid itself at the bottom of the screen, half showing. Instead, it was back at its defeat location. The problem still exists, but now in a better location. Installing Safari 4 has put it back in that weird location.
I slump back into my chair, all hope drained from me. I take a sip from my glass of scotch as I open the browser that continues to taunt me with its unwavering window position to seek help on the MacRumors forum.
The Plea:
Ah, my head hurts now. Please help before Safari drives me to alcoholism.
