I'm using Safari version 5.1.5 (7534.55.3) and it seems to me that its security features don't work - at least, they don't work as they appear they should.

After a while browsing different sites, I choose "Reset Safari..." from the "Safari" menu, making sure that all the box options are checked, and then I click "Reset.

I then go to Safari's preferences, and click on the "Privacy" tab. Despite having "reset" Safari, the preference tab reports that I have "6 website stored cookies or other data".

I don't see why this should be, since I had "reset" Safari.

Anyhow, so then, still in the "Privacy" preferences tab, I click on "Remove All Website Data...". Disregarding all the alert text I click on "Remove Now".

After that, the text in the preference tab about the "6 website stored cookies or other data" has gone.

OK. So I close the preferences - and then open them again. Lo and behold, it reports that I have "8 website stored cookies or other data" (8, not 6 as before).

I can continue the process as often as I like, 'restting' Safari and 'removing all website data', but each time, when I go to the "Privacy" preferences tab, it still reports "6 [or sometimes 8] website stored cookies or other data".

And clicking the "Details" button shows me what they are - cookies and suchlike from websites that I had visited, but which should have been removed.

So neither "resetting" Safari nor "Removing all website data" seems to get rid of cookies and data.

Quitting Safari, re-launching it and then resetting it seems to actually remove the data, but the "Privacy" preference options are misleading as they don't seem to get rid of the data without quitting and re-launching and resetting (though they say that they do).
