Safe Mode Late 2013 iMac

I was just messing around exploring my new iMac. I tried to get into safe mode but it wouldn't work. The status bar would just go half way and reboot. I updated to Mavericks when it came out. I also just finished a clean install and I still couldn't get into safe mode. Anybody else try booting into safe mode after updating to Mavericks? Also I never tried it when I first got the iMac so I don't know if safe mode even worked in the first place or not. Any ideas and thoughts?
