Safe to buy a powerbook?

I NEED to get a 12' Powerbook ASAP. I hear the rumors that new ones may be coming next week...but would I be safe to buy today with Apple.s general policy of shipping the new machines to people who buy within a week or so before? Anyone bought one recently and have a delay in shipping?
