I know this is a major feature of apples, but it is safe to carry the MacBook around while it's sleeping?

I know it shuts down the HD so it shouldn't be a problem.

How long will the mac last in a sleep state?

Cheers

Macs are very good at sleeping and there's no problem with carrying it around in sleep mode. The battery also lasts for ages, so unless you plan on storing it for days (in which case you might as well switch it off) it'll last. :)

It's 100% safe to carry a sleeping laptop around, for all practical purposes it's off.. it's just got a little power running through the RAM to keep it going.

A general rule of thumb is it'll sleep one hour for every % of battery life left. 100% battery charge, about 100 hours. If, however, the battery dies, the contents are also suspended to hard drive, so when you power it back up, it'll resume where you left it, in a few seconds instead of instantaneously.
