Safe to Unplug One End of Power Cord?

Is it safe to only unplug the MacBook end end of the power cord and keep the other end plugged into a power outlet?
 
It should be fine, I do this on occasion. Just make sure the unplugged end doesn't easily get shorted out by metal objects.
